Baan Dam Museum (Black House)
Baan Dam Museum, also known as the Black House or Black Temple, is a striking art complex created by renowned Thai artist Thawan Duchanee. This unconventional museum features over 40 buildings constructed in traditional Lanna style using dark teak wood, glass, and various materials. The complex showcases Duchanee's extensive collection of animal bones, skulls, skins, and horns, exploring themes of death, darkness, and the cycle of life. Each structure houses unique artworks, furniture made from exotic materials, and surrealist sculptures. The museum serves as a dramatic counterpoint to the nearby White Temple, offering visitors a thought-provoking journey through the artist's vision of mortality and spirituality. The sprawling grounds feature carefully landscaped gardens connecting the distinctive dark wooden buildings.
