Roman Amphitheatre of Arles
The Roman Amphitheatre of Arles, dating from the 1st century AD, is one of the world's best-preserved Roman amphitheatres. Once seating 20,000 spectators for gladiatorial combats, it still hosts bullfights during the Feria and concerts today. The structure measures 136 meters in diameter with two tiers of 60 arches each. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 as part of Arles' Roman and Romanesque Monuments, visitors can climb the towers for panoramic views over Arles and the Rhone valley.
