Arco da Porta Nova
Arco da Porta Nova is one of Bragas most iconic landmarks, originally part of the medieval city wall constructed around 1373. In 1772-1773, the arch was redesigned by Andre Soares, incorporating both Baroque and Neoclassical elements. The western facade features opulent Baroque style with an allegorical figure of Braga, while the eastern side is simpler Neoclassical. Notably, the arch was built without an actual gate, giving rise to the saying that Braga folk never close their doors. A National Monument since 1910, it serves as a ceremonial entrance to the historic center.
