Anaga Rural Park
Anaga Rural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2015, contains one of the world's oldest and best-preserved laurel forests (laurisilva). This subtropical rainforest formed millions of years ago when similar forests covered much of Europe. The landscape is dramatic with sharp peaks, deep ravines, and clouds threading through moss-covered ancient trees. Hiking trails range from the short Trail of the Senses (1.5 km) near Cruz del Carmen to the lengthy Cruz del Carmen to Punta del Hidalgo route (12 km one way). The tiny village of Taganana deep in the park offers authentic local restaurants. A car is highly recommended as bus service is limited.
