Amir Timur Square
Amir Timur Square is the symbolic heart of modern Tashkent, established in 1870 and renamed after independence. At the center stands a large bronze statue of the conqueror Timur on horseback, installed in 1994. At the base is inscribed 'Strength is in Justice' in four languages. From the square, eight boulevards lead symbolically to different parts of the world. Surrounding the square are the blue-domed Amir Timur Museum, the Uzbekistan Hotel, and the famous Tashkent Chimes clock tower built with a WWII war trophy mechanism. The area connects to Broadway pedestrian alley and Independence Square.
