Alyscamps
The Alyscamps is a famous Roman necropolis that was one of the most celebrated burial grounds in the ancient world. Used for over 1,500 years from Roman times through the Middle Ages, the tree-lined avenue with ancient sarcophagi leads to the 12th-century Church of Saint-Honorat. Van Gogh and Gauguin painted this atmospheric spot together in October 1888, creating some of their most famous works. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, it offers a peaceful walk through layers of history.
