Alcázar of Toledo
The Alcázar is the majestic fortress crowning Toledo's highest point, overlooking the old city and the Tagus River. This massive structure, with origins dating to the 3rd century, witnessed Roman, Visigothic, and Moorish rule before Charles V transformed it into a royal palace in the 16th century. Today it houses the Museo del Ejército (Army Museum) with an extensive collection of weapons, armor, and military documents spanning various eras. The fortress gained notoriety during the Spanish Civil War siege of 1936. Entry is free on Sundays, and children always enter free.
