Porta de Santiago (A Famosa)
Porta de Santiago is the only surviving gate of the Portuguese A Famosa fortress built in 1511. It was part of the largest Portuguese fortress in Asia, constructed by Alfonso de Albuquerque after conquering Malacca. The original fortress had five towers and massive stone walls. Destroyed by the Dutch and later the British, only this gate survived, saved by Sir Stamford Raffles. It stands as one of the oldest European relics in Asia and a symbol of Malacca's multicultural history.
