Useful tips for visiting Torres del Paine
Book refugio/camping 6+ months ahead - permits are mandatory and very limited in peak season
Weather is unpredictable - be prepared for all four seasons in one day. Waterproof and windproof layers are essential
Bring broken-in hiking boots - new boots will cause painful blisters. Waterproof footwear highly recommended
Bring Chilean pesos cash - ATMs limited in Puerto Natales and none in park. Refugios prefer cash
Start Base de las Torres hike at 5-6am to catch sunrise on the towers - one of the most breathtaking views in the world
Respect park rules strictly - no fires, cooking only in designated areas, no wild camping. Heavy fines and immediate expulsion
