Useful tips for visiting Thessaloniki

Avoid areas west of center at night, especially around Egnatia Street and university area. Center and waterfront are safe
Try bougatsa for breakfast - the famous sweet cream pie. Best spot: Bougatsadzidiko Trigona Esfigis near White Tower
Nightlife starts late - restaurants fill up from 10pm, clubs after midnight. Ladadika area for bars, Valaoritou for clubs
Watch for overcharging in bars and nightclubs, especially in summer. Ask for prices before ordering
Visit Modiano Market for fresh food and local atmosphere. Reopened after renovation with new restaurants
White Tower is free from outside with great sunset views. Museum entry €8
