No, mostly pebble beaches in Sochi. Bring water shoes. For sandy beaches, go to Anapa (4 hours north) or some hotel beaches.

Mid-range for Russia. Peak season (Jul-Aug, New Year) prices jump 2-3x. Shoulder season (May-June, Sep) is much cheaper.

Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Sochi

IMPORTANT: Visa/Mastercard do NOT work in Russia. Bring cash or Mir/UnionPay card.

Sochi is 145km long! Greater Sochi includes Adler, Krasnaya Polyana. Check district when booking.

Take Lastochka train to Krasnaya Polyana ski resort. 1 hour scenic ride through mountains.

Beach season: June-September. Water warmest in August (25-27°C). May and October are shoulder season.

Ski season: December-April. Rosa Khutor is main resort. Good snow, modern infrastructure.

Prices jump 2-3x during peak season (July-August, New Year). Book in advance.

Try Georgian cuisine - khachapuri, khinkali, shashlik. Better quality than typical Russian tourist food.

Pebble beaches, not sand. Bring water shoes. Sandy beaches are in nearby Anapa or Gelendzhik.

Olympic Park in Adler is free to walk. Stadium tours available. Beautiful at night with lights.

Winter is mild on coast (8-12°C) but mountains have heavy snow. Unique ski-beach day possible!
