Useful tips for visiting Pamukkale
Remove your shoes - the terraces are barefoot only. You must walk barefoot on the white travertine terraces to protect calcium deposits. Surface can be slippery and sharp. Bring a plastic bag to carry shoes
Arrive early or late for best experience. Visit at opening (6:30 AM summer) or after 4:00 PM to avoid tour bus crowds and harsh midday sun. Early morning also offers best photography light
Protect yourself from the sun. The white terraces reflect intense sunlight that can cause sunburn and eye strain. Bring high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses (essential), and a hat. Even on cloudy days, reflection from white surface is powerful
Enter from south gate for full experience. The south gate (town entrance) lets you walk up through terraces - the most rewarding approach. North gate at top is convenient but you miss main walking experience. Budget 3-4 hours minimum
Bring swimwear for Cleopatra Pool. If you plan to swim in Cleopatra's Antique Pool (the ancient thermal pool with submerged Roman columns), bring swimwear and towel. Changing facilities and lockers available. 36°C thermal water believed to have therapeutic properties
