Useful tips for visiting Kilimanjaro
Book through a licensed tour operator. All climbs require certified guides and park fees. Solo climbing is not allowed.
Climb slowly - 'pole pole' (Swahili). Acclimatization is key to summit success. Drink 3-4 liters water daily.
Pack proper cold weather gear. Summit temperatures can drop to -20C (-4F). Layers essential. Rent gear in Moshi if needed.
Tipping crew is expected. Budget $250-400 per climber for 6-8 day trek. Split between guides ($50-80), assistant guides ($40-50), porters ($8-10 each), cook ($30-40).
