No! All hiking trails in El Chalten are free and require no permits. Los Glaciares National Park maintains free access to all trails
8-10 hours round trip, 25 km with 1000m elevation gain. Final section is very steep. Start early (6-7 AM) and bring enough food and water
October-April is hiking season. December-February offers longest days and best weather. October-November and March-April less crowded with 30% lower prices
Bus from El Calafate (3 hrs, $35-40). Multiple daily departures. Buses leave from airport and town. Companies: Chalten Travel, Cal-Tur, TAQSA

Useful tips for visiting El Chalten
Start hikes early (6-7 AM) to avoid crowds and strong afternoon winds
Always carry waterproof and windproof jacket - famous Patagonian winds can reach 100 km/h
Buy groceries in El Calafate - prices in El Chalten are 20-30% higher
Most of the village is walkable. No transport needed within town
Book accommodation ahead for December-February. Hostels fill up fast!
