Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Dushanbe

Bring enough USD cash for ENTIRE trip - cards almost useless. ATMs unreliable. Exchange in Dushanbe banks. Outside capital, only cash works. $50-100/day budget comfortable.

Get GBAO permit with e-visa if planning Pamir Highway - only $20 extra. Without it, can't enter Gorno-Badakhshan region. Essential for the adventure of a lifetime.

Visit National Museum - excellent collection of Buddhist artifacts from Tajik archaeological sites. One of Central Asia's best museums. Air-conditioned respite from summer heat.

Try qurutob (bread salad with yogurt), plov, shashlik. Tajik cuisine similar to Uzbek but with Persian influences. Very affordable - good meal under $5.
