Useful tips for visiting Death Valley
Bring lots of water - minimum 1 gallon (4L) per person per day. Dehydration happens fast in desert heat. More if hiking
Fill up gas tank before entering - limited stations inside park. Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells only. Gas prices much higher than outside
Never hike midday even in cooler months. Early morning (before 10am) or late evening only. Ground temperature can be 40 degrees hotter than air
Your car is your best shelter in emergency - do not leave it. If broken down, stay with vehicle. Rescuers look for cars first, not people walking
Park entrance accepts cards only - no cash. Make sure you have working credit or debit card before arriving
Best photo times: sunrise at Zabriskie Point, sunset at Dante View. Golden hour light makes colorful mountains spectacular. Bring tripod for starry night shots
