Dry season from December to April is ideal. Temperature is comfortable (around 28°C), little rain. Avoid May-October — rainy season with daily afternoon downpours.

The Teleférico cable car is safe and operates daily. At the top (2200m) it's cool — bring a jacket. Hiking trails are safe only in groups with a guide, especially the Sabas Nieves route. Don't go alone.

USD cash is the main currency for tourists. Accepted everywhere. Bolivars (VES) devalue quickly. Visa/Mastercard work in major establishments, but exchange rate is unfavorable. Exchange money at official bureaus or hotels.

Airport is 30 km from center. Official taxi $40-60 (buy voucher inside terminal). Buses are cheaper ($2-3) but slower. Journey takes 45-90 minutes depending on traffic. Uber/DiDi work but not in arrival zone.

Morning: cable car to Avila (city views). Midday: historic center — Capitol, Plaza Bolivar, Cathedral. Afternoon: Museum of Contemporary Art or stroll through El Hatillo. Evening: dinner in Las Mercedes.

Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Caracas

Always carry a copy of your passport, keep the original in the hotel safe.

Download offline maps — mobile internet is unstable and expensive.

At the top of Avila temperature is 10°C lower than in the city — bring warm clothes.

Drink only bottled water. Avoid ice in drinks outside tourist areas.

Try arepas — corn flatbreads with filling, Venezuela's national dish.

Safety

Caution required

Avoid remote areas, especially at night

Caracas requires heightened caution. Avoid walking after dark, especially in non-tourist areas. Don't display expensive jewelry or electronics. Use only official taxis or apps. Tourist areas (Altamira, Las Mercedes, Chacao) are relatively safe during the day. Keep copies of documents separate from originals.
